There is no single schedule that suits every home. The right interval depends on how the room is used, the carpet fibre, whether there are children or pets, and the manufacturer’s care guidance.
A sensible starting point
For many occupied family homes, professional cleaning every 12 to 18 months is a reasonable starting point. A lightly used spare room may need attention less often, while a busy hallway or living room can benefit from earlier cleaning.
Homes with pets or young children
More frequent cleaning may be appropriate when a carpet regularly receives outdoor soil, food spills, pet hair or accidents. The important point is not to wait until heavy soil is visually obvious: many carpets hide dry soil deep within the pile.
Vacuuming still matters
Professional cleaning does not replace routine vacuuming. Effective, regular dry-soil removal can slow visible wear and reduce the amount of abrasive grit held in the carpet.
Check the carpet warranty
Some manufacturers specify cleaning intervals or methods as part of their warranty conditions. Keep invoices or service records where this applies.
