Sofa fabric identification guide

Two sofas that look similar can need very different cleaning methods.

Start with the manufacturer’s label

Look beneath removable cushions and under the platform for the composition and care information. Keep a clear photograph of every label when requesting a quote.

Common upholstery fibres

Polyester and other synthetics are widespread, while cotton, linen, viscose, wool and blended fabrics can require more controlled methods. Velvet describes a fabric construction rather than one single fibre.

Testing before cleaning

A technician may test colour stability, absorbency, texture and response in an inconspicuous area before choosing extraction or a lower-moisture process.

Why a full-sofa photograph helps

A full view shows size, cushion construction, fixed sections and high-use areas. Close-ups and label photographs help identify potential risks before arrival.
